Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)

The Family and Consumer Sciences program is dedicated to assisting families and individuals achieve an optimal quality of life. The curriculum is applicable to both men and women. The purposes serve professions of teachers, extension, business, public communications, human services, homemakers and care providers.

Students may major in FCS with an emphasis in business, general FCS, public communication, human services or vocational education. Students may also minor in FCS or fashion merchandising.

  • The Business emphasis provides knowledge and skills in accounting, economics, microcomputer, marketing and other general business concepts.
  • The Public Communication program emphasizes public speaking, television production, mass communications, voice and performance, and other communication concepts.
  • The Human Services emphasis provides knowledge and skills in psychology, sociology, nutrition, meal management and family finance.
  • The Vocational Education emphasis prepares teachers with vocational methods, curriculum development, clothing, guiding young children, interior design and other general FCS concepts.
