Degree: Education
Year: 1969
In 1965, Larraine Scott became involved in many activities
at ENMU; now, 37 years later, she is still actively committed to
the University. Coming to ENMU from Melrose, N.M. to become an
elementary school teacher. Larraine chose Eastern because of the
friendly students and faculty.
I liked that I knew everybody, and I talked to
my professors without feeling intimidated, she noted. Its
not like they were up on a pedestal, and we couldnt reach
them.
During her four years in Portales, Larraine was a
cheerleader, homecoming queen, a sorority member, a rodeo club member,
and a class officer. Today, she is the president of the ENMU alumni
board.
Although she now lives in Albuquerque and works at
home, Larraine makes the drive to Portales for alumni board meetings.
I feel I should give back to the University because I gained
so much in my time there, she said.
Larraine has spent much of her career doing volunteer
work and substitute teaching, continuing along the path she started
to follow in Portales. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Eastern
and wish I could go to college the rest of my life, she said. |
