Teacher Resources
The Instructional Resource Center
The Instructional Resource Center (IRC) is maintained by and located in the Golden Library. As one of nine regional evaluation centers for the New Mexico State Department of Education's Instructional Materials Program, the IRC receives thousands of instructional materials from publishers each year. As its primary collection emphasis, the IRC maintains an extensive representative sampling of instructional materials currently in use in New Mexico's public schools. The collection includes K–12 English and Spanish student and teacher edition textbooks, lesson plans, thematic units, workbooks, tests, duplicating masters, resource books, library books, maps, globes, multi-media kits, educational math games, audio-visual materials and computer software. Anyone with a current ENMU student ID or guest card may check out any materials, with the exception of the current year's subject adoption which takes place every January to May.
The Center for Teaching Excellence
The ENMU Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), housed in the Education Building, aims to improve the practice of education in New Mexico. It strives to identify and encourage effective teaching practices and educational programs statewide through teacher research, resource center, and publications. To this end, the CTE promotes the widespread application of research to promote teaching excellence through efforts to secure, develop, coordinate, and administer resources and programs that support exemplary teaching at all levels from early childhood through higher education. Teacher/participant research grants are available to public school and university instructors through the CTE.
The New Mexico Educational Software Clearinghouse
The New Mexico Educational Software Clearinghouse (NMESC) is housed in the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). NMESC reviews educational software and provides opportunities for pre-service and in-service teachers to review software prior to purchase. The software is located in the CTE and checked out through the Golden Library data system for review and use. Teachers are encouraged to consult with staff regarding educational software needs and materials for exceptionalities.
The Toy Library
The Toy Library, funded by the Children, Youth and Families Department, is housed in the Education Building. The library has a multitude of items for children from birth to third grade including resource materials, board games, puzzles, puppets, multicultural items, literary kits and other toys. The toys are arranged by age group to make items easy to locate. Everyone including parents, grandparents, teachers, and child care providers are welcome to use the library. Students will find it useful for presentations as well. Checking out items involves making a copy of an ID and signing the borrowing policy.
