Teacher Education Program (TEP)
Students seeking licensure in Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary or Special Education need to apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) while enrolled in EDF 222—Structured Observations of Teaching.
Requirements for admittance into the Teacher Education program:
- Have completed at least 40 semester hours of teaching degree General Education requirements.
- Have earned a career GPA of at least 2.80 or above in all coursework taken.
- Have taken and passed the basic skills portion of the New Mexico Teacher Assessment Test with a 240 or higher during your EDF 222 class.
- Have taken and passed EDF 222 with a C or higher grade.
Students who apply will be notified of their admission status prior to registration for 300 level education courses. Students who have been denied admission may reapply once they have met the admission criteria, but admission is not guaranteed.
Degree Plans
You are responsible for meeting with your advisor to develop a degree plan. You should plan to meet with your advisor every semester to ensure that you are meeting program requirements. Secondary Education majors must provide an updated copy of their official degree plan with their Teacher Education Program (TEP) application. Students who have earned a degree and are seeking licensure need to meet with an advisor to draft a licensure plan before applying.
The College of Education and Technology recommends that students take the New Mexico Teacher Assessment Basic Skills Test after completing a minimum of 35 hours of their teacher general education hours.
