Educational Administration

Graduate Coordinator: Dr. Mark Isham

This Master of Education (M.E.D.) program provides an advanced knowledge base and skills for prospective school administrators. Completion qualifies candidates for a New Mexico educational administration license for principals and superintendents. Nonadministration candidates may request permission to take some courses in other degree programs.

This internship-based program focuses on the role of the educational leader for the improvement of student learning. These experiences empower and guide candidates toward mastery of the following competencies:

  • Ethical leadership
  • Visionary leadership
  • Instructional leadership
  • Multicultural leadership
  • Disability leadership
  • Community relations leadership
  • Political leadership
  • Personal and professional leadership

This program features 15 hours of core courses followed by 18 required hours that culminate in a year-long internship.

All professors hold terminal degrees in special education or a related field. They bring a wealth of public school experience that blends theory and practice in providing positive student learning opportunities.

Graduate advisors check student progress using multiple methods to assess student work.

This program is aligned with the standards of three different professional associations: the National Policy Board for Educational Administration, the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium and the Code of Ethics of the American Association of School Administrators.
