Biography
Coach Scanlan was hired by ENMU during the 2000 spring semester just after the National Signing Date. Since then, he has put together a talented group of players following two full seasons of recruiting. As the head men's basketball coach at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, Scanlan and his teams earned an overall record of 97-57 (.630) in five years. He coached the Texans to Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) titles in 1995–96 and 1996–97 and to runner-up finishes in the WJCAC in 1997–98 and 1998–99. South Plains College qualified for the NJCAA Regional Tournament during each of Scanlan's first four seasons. Prior to arriving at South Plains, Scanlan was the head coach at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas, for five seasons (1990–95). Kilgore, a junior college competing in the Texas Eastern Athletic Conference, achieved a combined record of 101-56 (.643) under Scanlan's guidance. He coached the team to the NJCAA National Tournament in 1994. He also led the Rangers to the NJCAA Region XIV title in 1994 and to the TEAC championship in 1991. His overall career coaching record at the junior college level is 268-160 (.626) during 14 seasons. Scanlan's teams have qualified for postseason play 12 times and have won three conference championships.
