Biography
Ms. Cathey was born in Portales, New Mexico and raised in the Pep and Dora communities. She graduated from Dora High School in 1976 as the valedictorian of her class. She attended Eastern New Mexico University for four years and worked at the Child Development Center as a college student for three years as an undergraduate. Her first teaching assignment was at tiny Three Way ISD, near Maple, Texas. At Three Way, she taught both Head Start and Kindergarten. Ms. Cathey then took the Kindergarten position at Muleshoe ISD and taught there for years. In 1985, she relocated to Portales and taught Kindergarten, and continued in this position for 16 years. In 2001, she became the Head Teacher of the Child Development Center at Eastern New Mexico University. Ms. Cathey works with the preschoolers at the CDC as well as supervising work study students, lab students, and practicum students. She also teaches one Early Childhood class each semester. |
